Absolutely nothing. Attempt throwing in an egg shell. It will settle the grounds to the bottom. Some use the egg crack it in the grounds and throw in the shell and all. You might also soon after brewing dump in a bit of cold water to guide settle the grounds. A coffee press or espresso maker works well camping also.

Question by hrothgarthegeat: how can I charge my camera battery even though on a camping trip?
I am planning a 6 day camping trip, but my camera battery will only final about 1 day. I could get 6 batteries but that would cost hundreds!
I do have a battery charger (plugs into a wall outlet)… does any individual know of a compact generator or possibly a battery that provides energy to an AC outlet that I could take along? It wouldn’t take a lot power to charge my battery, I just require a way to do it from the top of a mountain.
No cars.. this is the top of a mountain!

I love the taste of boiled coffee over an open fire. We use one of those blue spotted porcelain pots without the basket. Just put in one scoop of grounds per cup and set on the fire. After water boils 5 minutes move aside to settle. Pour coffee through a fine strainer into cup and Enjoy.
Use a coffee bag, like a tea bag coffee also comes in pouches that you just put in the pot and boil. The real key to making a great cup of joe is to not over boil it and even burning it. Even though there is water in the pot cooking coffee to hot or to long will make it taste bitter and burnt.
Also try adding a bit of orange peel for a little bit of fruity taste and smoother aroma.
another trick, use instant coffee no fuss no muss as strong or as weak as you or your fellow campers may like.
You should try a french press. That’s what we use and needs no electricity.
from Wikpedia: Coffee may also be brewed by steeping in a device such as a French press (also known as a cafetière or coffee press). Ground coffee and hot water are combined in a coffee press and left to brew for a few minutes. A plunger is then depressed to separate the coffee grounds, which remain at the bottom of the container. Because the coffee grounds are in direct contact with the water, all the coffee oils remain in the beverage, making it stronger.”
They sell them at ikea for about 12 bucks. All you do is heat your water and pour it into the pot. The grounds are already in there. You let it sit for a few minutes and then plunge it which leaves all the grounds on the bottom. YUMMY!!
Good grief its camping not a night at the Fancy Motel 6
Just dont drink the last two swallows of coffee in your cup and you wont have to worry about sucking down grounds.
you can get a solar generator
There are car plugins that fit into your car and the other in your phone. The are alternatives if you aren’t using a car. You can buy power backs that store up high amounts of power for using lights, phones and so on.
In the back country the only way is to get a solar charger/generator.
solar chargers, what’s the voltage and amperage on the plug?

edit** I have a mini camcorder made by jazz that’s HD and shuts itself off when you close the viewing screen, I paid $ 200 for it and it works beautifully. I’ve left it without charging it for a month!! and it still worked fine when I picked it up, wicked battery life and it takes forever for the battery to die, maybe a continuous 8 hours, accidently hit record and it recorded for 2 hours and then stayed on for 6 more hours! I know this because of the clock on the recorded video

I got mine at canadian tire for $ 200, but it must be more affordable in the USA.
Ok, wow, it looks like your going to have to spend a bit of money any way you go, and to carry a generator up a mountain is really hard work, plus you would have to carry fuel. I guess the best way for you to go is to bite the bullet and get a solar recharger. It would be great if you did get a generator because it could be used for several occasions, but here it is not practical. You can also try cutting the camera off when your not taking pics, but it would only give you about 2 or 3 days at most.

I use a solar yard light to recharge batteries when I go camping….they are cheap and come with batteries…….it takes all day to recharge them and they need to be in sunlight but they do work and they are cheap…….this depends on your camera using AA batteries…….mine does
I use a small solar panel to recharge my SLA’s that I use for my backpack ham radio station.
The panel is from Volkswagen! They ship cars with a solar panel to keep the batteries alive in transit and storage. Then the dealer pulls out the panels and can sell them or return them to Volkswagen. They end up on eBay for about $ 15.00 each.
