Question by jackrrabitt: Exactly where can I go tent camping in Minnesota withouth bothering with the State Parks and/or reserved camp grounds?
Any suggestions? A couple friends and I would like to go camping no further than 3-four hours away from the Twin Cities without having bothering with State Park nonsense, and so forth… Is this possible? Any stories beneficial or bad? We’re planning on next weekend (2nd wknd October) and we’ll be bringing every little thing we want, and are prepared to rough it in a stunning setting. Thanks ahead of time!

Have in no way camped in Minnesota but check into “dispersed camping” in their state forests.

Northeast of the twin cities is the Chequamegon National Forest

which allows dispersed camping outside of campgrounds. Once you’re on federal land you can pretty much camp where you please. Just follow a Forest Service road and you’ll probably find a nice campsite right on a lake.
Some weekend you have to look on your owned and its going to be fun to look in that time thing o,k.
Perhaps you could check out one of the American Indian reservations
tribal council to learn if you could camp on their land. White Earth or Prairie Island Community for examples.
