Question by blueskys: What are the five finest camping regions on the Northern Coast of California?
We are hunting for great camping regions north of San Francisco along the coast. We want to stay fairly close to the ocean, have dogs, bikes, hiking shoes and a tent. We will go as far as the Oregon border but hopefully not that far.
We hope to remain in 2-three various places with different environments.
What are your favorite camping places and why?
Thanks so very much!

My favorites are:
Van Damme State Park just south of Mendocino. This park has a sheltered cove that is good for kayaking (tours obtainable), and a truly good trail up the Small River. Mendocino is worth a pay a visit to.
Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park (Elk Prairie Campground). This park has amazing redwood forests. Don’t miss the drive out to the coast. The hike by Fern Canyon is a need to.
Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park (nearly to the Oregon border, but the best campground on the list). This is a spectacular campground on the banks of the Smith River. Stout Grove is just across the river from the campground and is one of the most magnificent groves of redwoods I’ve ever seen. The drive on Howland Hill road is amazing (dirt road, passable in most vehicles).
Not poor:
MacKerricher State Park. On the coast with lots of harbor seals.
Humboldt Redwoods State Park, Albee Creek Campground (may possibly not have trailer web-sites). The nearby Rockefeller Forest is the largest old-growth redwood forest left in California. Rumors are that the tallest tree in the planet is in this grove, but the men and women who measure these items are fairly secretive.

bone up on your astronomy. at night. point out the constellations and give a small history behind each and every significant one. your final constellation you point out need to be one that has a romantic undertone. appear up greek mythology and that will aid. having a girl beneath all those stars and throwing out a little expertise with no being to “know-it-all” will truly get her going!

campfire and smores are great ideas, so is the astronomy thing. if you take games, i suggest a deck of cards. by camping, do you mean renting a cabin, or pitching a tent? make sure you pick a good campsite, ones by running water are the best. its nice to listen to a river at night. and some alcohol couldnt hurt, just dont get too drunk. which park are you goin to? i used to live right outside yellowstone and there are some great spots there.
take bug spray
Try camping at a lake or near the seashore. The sound of the waves is way cool (Better than iPod), and it’s easy to keep the fire stoked with driftwood (watch out for wet wood though).
Have a couple of rectangular sleeping bags that can be hooked together instead of the warmer mummy bags.
Baby Wipes. No matter how hard you try, you will get funky and grimy. Nothing will make her feel less attactive and romantic than a gritty body.
Get about six citronella candles to surround your campsite (Don’t put them in the tent). Bug spray smells bad and tastes worse.
Take along a couple extra, clean flannel blankies to wrap up in while watching the fire and listening to the waves….
I totally agree on the wipes. They help kill the funk and if you get wipes with aloe they help soothe as well.
Camping was our first trip, be prepared to learn a thing or two about the other person. Camping will expose certain things
Hope for rain. If so you get to spend alot of time in the tent, you can think of things to do in there
Playin in the cold water usually gives you an extra reason to cuddle.
Try to bring some lotion, you usually get a little dry when camping. Make sure to offer to rub it on.
I suggested a little hike and some love under the open sky.
Best of luck hope y’all have a good time.
all ya need is a campfire and a big blanket to cuddle under. remember to only pack one so u have to share!
also i liked the idea of learning constalations, if its a clear night away from the bright lights of the city.. there is something really romantic about looking at the stars 2gether.
