Question by fudge_berry666: Where can I discover best of the line survival/camping gear?
I’m preparing a back-packing hike into the Rio Grande region. What gear would be ideal to take for this trip? I strategy on becoming out there with my camera for two weeks. I will need quality camping items that will not rip, shred, tear, or break. If you can deliver a website link to a camping store, that would be wonderful!

I applied to hike and camp rather alot, for me i found milets and black rock to be good shops having said that army surplus stores had been the greatest for durable and trustworthy kit.
Imo it isnt feasible to a single day go out and acquire every thing you will need, it takes time to put collectively the fantastic set of kit for your self and your requires and takes even extra time to become proficient at employing that kit.
What i would recommend is putting collectively a survival tin and constantly retain that on you at all occasions, my tin consists of:
Needle and thread.
Fishing hooks/ weights and line.
A flint + steel.
A knife.
Iodine tablets.
Potasium permanganate (spl?)
Plasters.
Bandage.
Small candle.
Matches covered in wax.
Dollars (nearby currency or us dollar)
Snare wire.
Safety pins.
String.
Button compass.
I dont have my tin handy so cant list almost everything but thats what i don’t forget. With my survival tin i can survive in about 80-85% anyplace in the globe (on land), more importantly than whats in your tin is recognizing how to use it, just like with your main camping gear.
Personally i applied to go minimalistic, a solid backpack (berghauss, karimor), tiny hammock, a poncho for a coat that doubled as a roof, a solid pair of boots(regular british army situation), a lot of thin waterproof layers, lots of socks, a twin set of british army mess tins to cook in and consume from, zippo lighter+gas lighter+fire rod, solid nylon climbing rope and a damn excellent knife (opinel 4inch and a 7 inch)+small diamond sharpening stone, compass(or two)+map. Oh and dont forget a knife, fork and spoon.
Aswell as that as many creature comforts as your willing to drag around with you. I alwaysed carried foot powder and some added bandages for the inevitable blisters, pop them, drain them and bandage them whilst leaving as significantly skin as feasible.
The most crucial issue you can have although is information, read and experiment with all your kit, understand to use your kit for a variety of tasks, if a single factor breaks be prepared to use a thing else for the process. You will constantly forget some thing so be ready to accomodate.
If the terrain is particularly unfamiliar take a gps positioning system and contemplate a satelite mobile phone.
As for food i used to eat what i caught, snares and a small fishing set will enable you to set up traps and evening lines ensuring a plentifull breakfast
I locate the extra minimalistic you go the a lot more you understand to relly on your self top to a more enjoyable trip.
Hope that helped,
Don

Crates or a leash and collar or a tie out. Food and Water. Maybe beds.
Some toys.
And if you pick up their bathroom, a scooper and bag to put in him.
Maybe a towel to wipe them down if they get dirty.
Definitely a first aid kit for the dogs and before you even go – stop at your vets office and get some Advantix and apply that to your dogs to keep the fleas and ticks away.
Tweezers, bandages, antiseptic, food/water bowls, peroxide, antiseptic wash, collars, leashes, rabies tags and blankets for the dogs.
That sounds like fun! Wishing you and your dogs a happy time! They will love it for sure!
take note of how much they drink per day, and bring a bucket or bowls and enough of YOUR home tap water so that they aren’t drinking “foreign” water–this could cause diarrhea
1) a fiberglas crate for each dog. You never know when camping if you need to confine you’re dog for safety reasons.
2) Dog bowls for food and water. best is stainless steal because they clean up well.
3) basic first aid kit. most products in a first aid kit for humans is the same for animals. only thing you want to make sure you have is bandages that you could wrap there paw if the pads become cracked.
4) tough pads. This is a great product if you are going to hike around with you’re dogs. its a sticky substance that you spray on you’re dogs foot and its acts as a sealant.
5) make sure all you’re leashes and collars are new and wont break.

I like Don Lewis’s answer.
you can’t just go buy the gear we tell you about and go camping, go on hiking trips in places similar to where you’ll be camping and test out your equipment and such, get a feel for them and see what works for you, some things we can use might not be easy or suitable for your situation.
I know you’d need to have lots of water for walking in the arid desert and a way to purify water, preferably boiling, since it’s a large river fed by streams, likely very polluted with sediment and human pollution, get water from a stream. only one I know about for that area, never been there, but my rules cover all camping areas, from desert, river side sites and temperate rainforest, I don’t know about true rainforest, since I’ve never been in one?
